Adult and community education and training

City of Dublin FET College works with local communities, statutory and voluntary agencies to provide accessible and empowering community education and training options across the city. Collaboration and partnership are key to our success and we deliver flexible options to support adult learners in a wide range of settings to return to education, build confidence and progress.

Community education

Part-time community education courses offer a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Community Development

Community Education courses aim to remove barriers to education, providing opportunities for personal growth, skill development and community engagement. Designed around local needs, empowering learners and their communities, courses range from beginner level to NFQ Level 5 qualifications.

Community training

Full-time community training initiatives include:

  • Specialist Training providers
  • Justice workshops

We work with  local community groups and agencies to provide high quality training programmes directly within communities. These supports help people of all ages build skills, gain qualifications, and access new opportunities.

City of Dublin FET College facilitates the Regional Adult Literacy Coalition in Dublin city to implement the adult literacy for life strategy. It includes representatives from many voluntary and statutory agencies collaborating to build awareness and improve services. If you are interested in getting involved, we would love to hear from you. Education Services to Prisons

Education Service to Prisons and Pathways Post Release Centre

In partnership with the Irish Prison Service, City of Dublin FET College delivers education services across seven Dublin prisons: Arbour Hill, Cloverhill, Dóchas Centre, Mountjoy, Mountjoy West, the Training Unit, and Wheatfield.

Our Education Service to Prisons offers a wide range of courses across FET College faculty areas, designed to meet the needs of learners in custody. Programmes include life skills, literacy and digital learning, as well as Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate, and QQI accredited courses.

Learners can also access third level education through partnerships with the Open University and Maynooth University, supporting progression beyond prison education.

Supporting learners after release

The Pathways Post Release Centre provides vital support to former prisoners during the transition back into the community. The centre offers education advice, counselling, referrals and practical support in a safe and welcoming environment, helping learners build positive futures.

FET Projects

City of Dublin FET College works in partnership with The Courts Service to provide this education programme. People referred to the Drug Treatment Court engage in a supervised treatment, education and rehabilitation journey as an alternative to custodial sentence.

The Drug Treatment Court Education Project provides a supportive, tailored learning environment where a participant can work towards QQI Certification at level 2, 3 and 4 in Computers, Art, Maths Reading and Writing. Students also avail of Career Guidance and Peer Support Self Care groups to support them with their recovery journey.

Based in Dublin 8, The Bridge Project creates second chances with men and women over 21 years of age who have experience of the criminal justice system and/or a history of addiction.   Working collaboratively with individuals and partner agencies, The Bridge Project unlocks potential and supports participants re-integrate with family, community, and society.  In partnership with City of Dublin FET College, participants are offered a flexible learning programme leading to accreditation at QQI Level 3, 4 and 5.

The Foundations Project provides education programmes for adults and families using homeless services. Adult courses in Parnell Adult Education Centre include computers, English Language, art, and more, with the opportunity of working towards QQI accreditation at Level 3 to Level 5. We also offer a family learning programmes in Dublin 1 which provides parenting workshops, youth groups, and study support to help children and parents engage positively in education.

YES Project is an Education and Youth Service in the City of Dublin ETB for young people aged 16 to 23 who are from diverse refugee and migrant backgrounds, in particular for unaccompanied minors . YES offers two full time education programmes for Beginner English speakers, including Maths, IT, Life Skills and Literacy Support and a range of co-curricular activities.  We also run a ‘Study Buddy Homework Club’ for students in mainstream secondary school.
